Dangerous goods declarant GIV becomes a new INFr8 pilot participant
GIV Gefahrgut & Industrieverpackungs Service GmbH successfully sent its first digital shipment declaration of dangerous goods via the eDGD portal INFr8 at Frankfurt Airport on February 21st.
One of the key tasks of the dangerous goods declarant, which is based in Raunheim near Frankfurt Airport, is to assist forwarders and shippers in the transport of dangerous goods. When Adem Yurt, Managing Director and Dangerous Goods Safety Advisor of GIV, learned about the pilot of the INFr8 shipping portal in January 2019, it was clear to him that his company should be involved right from the start: "We joined INFr8 at an early stage so that we could contribute our know-how to the project’s development. In air freight - especially in dangerous goods processing - the transport handling documentation has until now been manual and paper-based. This is where the shipping portal INFr8 comes in. With INFr8, we can not only create the eDGD, the electronic dangerous goods declaration, but can also send it directly to the airline as an electronic document. This allows them to process the information using their software and, if necessary, send us back any corrections without processes being delayed.” Using INFr8, GIV has implemented a digital information chain from its customers, i.e. forwarders and dangerous goods companies, leading through to handling agents and airlines, thereby making their dangerous goods processing more transparent, significantly faster and overall more efficient. In addition to being able to create and share dangerous goods declarations electronically, one of the further advantages that the pilot participants are already gaining from the portal is to receive up-to-the-minute current status information on each individual transport step.
About INFr8: The INFr8 shipping portal is a worldwide unique platform that is specially tailored to the air cargo supply chain. Via the digital platform, all shipping data, including the legally-required Dangerous Goods Declaration, can be transmitted completely electronically from the shipper via the forwarder and/or dangerous goods declarant to the airline/handling agent. INFr8 was developed by DAKOSY with the support of Fraport AG and has been tested in pilot operation at Frankfurt Airport since September 2018. In addition to GIV Gefahrgut & Industrieverpackungs Service GmbH, the pilot participants include many well-known shippers, logistics service providers, and Customs declarants, as well as the airline Lufthansa Cargo and handling agents FCS and LUG.
