Johanna Grandt

At DAKOSY since February 2024

Department: Team leader for GEGIS (Dangerous Goods Information System)

I like to start my workday with…

… exercise. I always cycle to work and often make a stop at the gym on the way.

“In the past, I was simply a user of DAKOSY’s applications. Now it fascinates me to discover who and what is behind it all.”

Johanna Grandt (38) is a certified shipping agent. She completed her professional training with shipbroker and liner agent Peter W. Lampke. She then joined the shipping company Hamburg Süd. There she spent eight years working in the dangerous goods department and learned everything there is to know about handling dangerous goods and the underlying rules and segregation regulations.

When she was searching for a new job after Maersk’s acquisition of Hamburg Süd, her qualifications in dangerous goods were a perfect match for the open team leader position with GEGIS. Over the past six months, Johanna has acquired most of the basic IT know-how she needs for her work with GEGIS, while also getting to know and understand DAKOSY's range of port community services and software applications. In addition to her friendly, helpful colleagues and the new professional challenges, she particularly likes the options for flexible working hours at DAKOSY, as this allows her to comfortably combine her job, family and sport.

With three software developers on her team, she manages the GEGIS dangerous goods information system, which DAKOSY operates and continues to expand on behalf of the Hamburg Waterway Police. In addition to project tasks, her responsibilities include regular coordination meetings with the waterway police, responding to technical queries from users and keeping the regulations and segregation rules stored in GEGIS up to date. There are also requests for the expansion of the AI project, successfully completed in April, which makes it easier for the waterway police to detect undeclared dangerous goods.

Now that her trial period is finished, Johanna is going on summer vacation with her husband and daughter - three weeks in Sicily. A larger trip is planned for November. A good friend is celebrating her wedding in Brazil and Johanna definitely wants to be there. As she loves long-distance travel and has never been to Brazil before, she is really looking forward to this trip as well.
