Otherwise, DAKOSY GE 2026.2 cannot be started. This applies in particular to Oracle WebStart, a 32-bit Java runtime, a 32-bit operating system, or a Java version below Java 21. The warning about an outdated AppStart version is excluded from this and is only an update recommendation.

The DAKOSY Servicedesk cannot inspect or change the local configuration of your workstations, operating systems, Java runtimes, or launchers.
Transition phase
DThe technical checks are introduced with DAKOSY GE 2026.1. This gives companies early notice of workstations that must be adapted before DAKOSY GE 2026.2 is used. The migration can be planned and carried out step by step throughout the lifecycle of DAKOSY GE 2026.1. It is not necessary to migrate all workstations on a single fixed date.
Supported Java versions during the transition
- When DAKOSY GE 2026.1 is introduced: DAKOSY GE 2026.1 can be started with Java 8 and Java 21. Java 8 is initially the default.
- During the lifecycle of DAKOSY GE 2026.1: DAKOSY will make Java 21 the preferred runtime. The check of the Java version in use will be activated at that point. Java 8 will remain available as a fallback for DAKOSY GE 2026.1.
- From DAKOSY GE 2026.2: DAKOSY GE 2026.2 can only be started with Java 21. Java 8 is no longer supported.
Recommendation: Use DAKOSY GE 2026.1 to set up DAKOSY AppStart or OpenWebStart at an early stage and test the selected launcher during normal operation. When using DAKOSY AppStart, you do not need to prepare or distribute a Java 21 runtime yourself: AppStart manages the Java runtime and automatically downloads Java 21 as soon as DAKOSY makes it the default. OpenWebStart also normally downloads a runtime that matches the application automatically. Your IT department only needs to prepare and provide a suitable 64-bit Java 21 runtime if it manages the runtimes in OpenWebStart itself.

Why is this warning displayed?
DAKOSY GE was started with Oracle WebStart (javaws). Oracle WebStart is no longer included in current Java versions and is not available with Java 21.
How to resolve the issue
Use one of the following launchers in the future:
- DAKOSY AppStart — recommended: AppStart downloads and updates DAKOSY GE and provides the required Java runtime. Download and install DAKOSY AppStart.
- OpenWebStart: Alternatively, DAKOSY GE can be started with OpenWebStart. OpenWebStart normally downloads a runtime that matches the application automatically. If your IT department manages the runtimes itself, it must provide a suitable 64-bit Java 21 runtime. Open the OpenWebStart website.
Consequence if no action is taken: DAKOSY GE 2026.2 cannot be started with Oracle WebStart. In the future, start DAKOSY GE only with DAKOSY AppStart or OpenWebStart. Existing Oracle WebStart shortcuts should no longer be used.

When using OpenWebStart
OpenWebStart normally downloads a Java runtime that matches the application automatically. In this operating model, your IT department does not need to prepare or distribute its own Java 21 runtime. A suitable 64-bit Java 21 runtime only needs to be provided if your IT department manages the runtimes itself.
- Open OpenWebStart Settings.
- Open the JVM Manager section.
- Search for local Java installations or let OpenWebStart download a suitable runtime.
- Make sure that a 64-bit Java 21 runtime is used.
- Start DAKOSY GE again.
Consequence if no action is taken: DAKOSY GE 2026.2 cannot be started with a 32-bit Java runtime. A 64-bit Java runtime can only be used on a 64-bit operating system.
Why is this warning displayed?
A 32-bit operating system is installed on the workstation. This platform is not compatible with DAKOSY GE 2026.2 running on Java 21.
How to resolve the issue
- Contact your IT department.
- Have the workstation migrated to a supported 64-bit operating system or use another compatible workstation.
- Then install the latest version of DAKOSY AppStart or OpenWebStart.
Consequence if no action is taken: DAKOSY GE 2026.2 cannot be started on a 32-bit operating system. Installing a different Java version is not sufficient. The operating system itself must be upgraded or the workstation must be replaced.
Why is this warning displayed?
The installed version of DAKOSY AppStart is not current. An older AppStart version does not prevent DAKOSY GE 2026.2 from starting. It should still be updated so that the latest bug fixes and security updates are available.
How to update AppStart
- Close DAKOSY GE completely.
- Download the latest setup package from the DAKOSY AppStart help page.
- Run the setup package.
- Then start DAKOSY GE again using DAKOSY AppStart.
Recommendation: An outdated AppStart version does not prevent DAKOSY GE 2026.2 from starting. Nevertheless, update AppStart promptly to receive the latest bug fixes and security updates.
Note for IT administrators: Also check stored setup packages in software distribution systems, network drives, or internal download areas and replace outdated versions.
Why is this warning displayed?
The check of the Java version in use will be activated during the lifecycle of DAKOSY GE 2026.1 when DAKOSY makes Java 21 the preferred runtime. From that point, this warning is displayed if DAKOSY GE was started with Java 8, Java 11, Java 17, or another version below Java 21. DAKOSY GE 2026.1 can continue to be started with Java 8 and Java 21; however, Java 21 is mandatory for DAKOSY GE 2026.2.

OpenWebStart normally downloads a Java runtime that matches the application automatically. Your IT department therefore only needs to prepare and distribute a Java 21 runtime if it manages the runtimes in OpenWebStart itself.
- Use a current version of OpenWebStart.
- Open OpenWebStart Settings.
- Open the JVM Manager section.
- Search for local Java installations or let OpenWebStart download a suitable runtime.
- Make sure that a 64-bit Java 21 runtime is available.
- Start DAKOSY GE again.
Enforce Java 21 in OpenWebStart now: If your IT department manages the runtimes in OpenWebStart itself, it can run the environment exclusively with Java 21 before DAKOSY changes the preferred runtime. Make only a suitable 64-bit Java 21 runtime available to OpenWebStart and no longer provide a Java 8 runtime. OpenWebStart will then use the available Java 21 runtime for DAKOSY GE. Test this configuration before deploying it throughout your company.
Migration timing: DAKOSY GE 2026.1 allows you to switch to Java 21 early and in stages; Java 8 remains supported in this version. Java 21 is mandatory for DAKOSY GE 2026.2. When is disabling the checks appropriate?
This option is intended particularly for larger companies and their IT departments that have planned the migration of their workstations and are carrying it out in stages. This avoids repeated warning messages for users while the technical migration is coordinated centrally.
How to request deactivation
- Contact the DAKOSY Servicedesk to request deactivation.
- Specify the company concerned, DAKOSY GE, and the checks that should be disabled.
- DAKOSY documents the deactivation and the prior notification of the identified issues in the Servicedesk ticket.
Important: Deactivation only hides the warnings. It does not resolve technical issues or change the system requirements. Even with warnings disabled, DAKOSY GE 2026.2 cannot be started if a mandatory technical requirement is not met. Updating an outdated AppStart version, on the other hand, is a recommendation and not a startup blocker. Once the deactivation has been documented, further planning and implementation of the migration are the responsibility of the company.

The following recommendations help your IT department replace Oracle WebStart and provide a suitable launcher for DAKOSY GE and, where applicable, other Java applications.
In this case, we recommend installing DAKOSY AppStart. DAKOSY AppStart fully manages the Java runtime required by DAKOSY GE. Your IT department therefore does not need to prepare, install, package, or distribute a Java 21 runtime to the workstations.
If other Java applications are launched from JNLP files in addition to DAKOSY GE, we recommend using OpenWebStart. Where possible, replace Oracle WebStart completely rather than operating both launchers in parallel. This helps prevent conflicts in the file association for the .jnlp file type.
Please note: After the migration, all JNLP applications previously used with Oracle WebStart must be downloaded or opened again with OpenWebStart. Include this step in your migration planning and testing.

Only if your IT department manages the runtimes in OpenWebStart itself must it provide a 64-bit Java 21 runtime for DAKOSY GE 2026.2. DAKOSY recommends and tests DAKOSY GE with Temurin (Adoptium) and Semeru (IBM) runtimes.
Use Java 21 exclusively: If your IT department manages the runtimes itself, it can configure OpenWebStart before the general transition so that DAKOSY GE is started only with Java 21. To do so, provide only a suitable Java 21 runtime in OpenWebStart and no longer provide a Java 8 runtime.
Important when using DAKOSY AppStart: You do not need to select, prepare, or distribute any of these Java runtimes yourself. AppStart manages the Java runtime and automatically downloads Java 21 as soon as Java 21 becomes the default for DAKOSY GE.
Is the warning still displayed?
Close DAKOSY GE completely and start it again. If the warning remains, contact your IT department first. Your IT department can inspect and adjust the local configuration of the workstation and operating system, the DAKOSY AppStart installation, and the Java runtime and configuration used by OpenWebStart. The DAKOSY Servicedesk cannot assist with these local technical matters.
