A climate-neutral start to the new business year

DAKOSY receives CO₂ compensation certificate

The forward-looking goals of climate conservation, sustainability and social responsibility are an integral part of DAKOSY's company operations. The starting point for future-oriented sustainability management is the transparent balancing of CO₂ emissions.

On April 22, 2022 DAKOSY received the CO2 compensation certificate.

For the first time, the Hamburg software company has calculated its CO2 footprint for the 2021 financial year. By offsetting its emissions, DAKOSY was able to make an additional contribution to the fight against climate change and is thus climate-neutral according to the leading global Greenhouse Gas Protocol standard for CO2 accounting.

"For us, successful CO2 accounting is an important building block in our company-wide sustainability strategy. We also want to make this result transparent for the world to see," explains Markus Giesenkirchen, Commercial Director at DAKOSY and project manager for the CO2 footprint calculation.

One of the many important measures already in place within the company in terms of sustainability is the purchase of green electricity for their headquarters in Hamburg. This also includes power for the high-performance data center. "We see this first-time assessment of the carbon footprint as the start of a journey that will show us further CO2 reduction potential in the form of easy wins, but above all help us to develop a more extensive decarbonization strategy," adds Giesenkirchen, with a view to the future.

The company has already implemented various initiatives in the field of mobility. DAKOSY has been expanding its fleet of electric vehicles for several years now. In addition, the software provider is consistently promoting the use of public transport, which gives employees with longer commutes in particular an incentive to consciously avoid using their cars. Company bike leasing augments the range of alternative solutions for commuting. Sustainability is also a key factor in the choice of transport and overnight accommodation for business trips.

DAKOSY offsets the remaining carbon footprint from the year 2021 through carefully selected climate protection projects. These are the Borneo Rainforest REDD+ project (in Indonesia) and a wind energy project in Manisa (Turkey). Both contribute to the avoidance or reduction of CO2 and are verified according to the Gold Standard or the Verified Carbon Standard.
