BI analyses in ZODIAK GE

First demo version to be presented at the Transport Logistic fair

Information from customs declarations is relevant not just for customs officers. The data records also provide companies with valuable information on how to optimize their work processes or their financial management.

BI Tool

A BI tool (Business Intelligence Tool) is software that analyzes business data and converts it into meaningful insights to help make informed decisions. The results of the BI analysis are presented in easy-to-understand reports, dashboards, graphs, charts and maps.

Data Lake

A data lake is a central storage facility for large volumes of data in its original format. The data can then be processed and used as the basis for a variety of analyses. In contrast to conventional databases, it is optimized to quickly find a specific data record, such as a customs declaration.

DAKOSY is currently developing a service for its Zodiak GE customs software to make this kind of customized data available to users. DAKOSY will be presenting an initial demo version at Transport Logistic, the leading logistics trade fair in Munich from June 2 to 5, 2025, in Hall B1, Stand 107/208.

The service can be used flexibly. For more extensive analyses, BI tools can be connected to seamlessly prepare and visualize the information. Smaller assessments are also made available directly in Zodiak GE. For DAKOSY CEO Simon Lembke, this means that the customs software can be used not only for operational purposes, but also as a strategic planning tool: “Our aim is to give customers access to their own data pool in order to generate added value from the data in their customs applications.”

Newly created data lake

The new service changes the principle of data retrieval from “push” to “pull.” Instead of providing the user with all the data in a pre-defined format (e.g. Excel or csv), the user pulls the exact information they need from the newly-created data lake. “The new infrastructure with the data lake gives us the opportunity to make data available individually, without disrupting the live environment. The data lake is fed by the production database, which remains unaffected and thereby prevents loss of performance," says Lembke, explaining the technical background.

Only get the data you need

This principle gives users maximum flexibility to retrieve data directly from the source exactly as it is needed. The customer determines independently how the data is filtered and prioritized and which key figures are generated. Examples of typical reports are: the number of customs declarations per customs office, breakdown of customs declarants, import duties incurred or rejections per customs office - in each case over a user-selected period.
