Extensive use of slot booking

The door management system (RSS) for slot booking at Frankfurt Airport is proving to be very popular.

"By now, about 95 percent of import shipments are registered in advance. By the middle of the year, that percentage should also apply to exports," reports DAKOSY's authorized officer Dirk Gladiator. The fact that Frankfurt Cargo Services (FCS), the largest independent cargo handler at Frankfurt Airport, has now also adopted the procedure makes a significant contribution to the high level of coverage. Other participants in the slot booking procedure are the handling agents LUG, Celebi and Swissport.

For FCS Managing Director Claus Wagner, participation is a successful move: "We are especially happy with the increase in service offerings for our customers. We also benefit from significantly more efficient processes which also improve our capacity considerably." FCS alone handles roughly 60,000 to 70,000 tons per month at Cargo City Süd. Wagner sees the option for freight forwarders and transport companies to book their shipments throughout Cargo City Süd using the slot booking system as an advantage for this location. Since its introduction, almost 800 freight forwarders and transporters have started using this FAIR@Link module.

Gladiator sees the increasing integration of infrastructure data as a major digitalization boost for the site. Working together with airport operator Fraport, the most recent innovation has been to link the automatic license plate recognition when entering Cargo City Süd into the slot booking system. The result: the barriers open automatically for vehicles with a confirmed slot. An average of 200 vehicles benefit from this every day, and the trend is continuing to grow.
